FAQs
Who is eligible to submit a script?
Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and First Nations playwrights are invited to submit their plays for our annual Playwrights Retreat, Festival of New Plays, Short Play Festival, First Look Series, and Equity productions. We encourage beginning, emerging, and established Native playwrights to submit.

Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis; however, there are specific deadlines for particular development opportunities in an upcoming season. For information on how to submit and current deadlines, please visit our Call for Scripts.
How are script submissions evaluated?
Submissions are evaluated annually by our National Reading Panel, which is composed of nationally recognized theatre artists, directors, dramaturgs, and decision-makers from professional theatre companies and universities across the United States—as well as by the Native Voices staff.
What is a "Blue Star Theatre"?
Native Voices offers discounted tickets to military personnel and their immediate families.
Blue Star Theatres is a program of Blue Star Families and Theatre Communications Group, with support from the MetLife Foundation.
What is "Distance Dramatury"?
Months prior to residencies, selected playwrights participate in dramaturgical conversations over Zoom with a dramaturg and director. Workshops with these creative teams and a cast of professional actors commence once the playwright arrives on-site. It is important to note that these conversations and workshops are playwright driven, allowing the writer to shape their own developmental path. Selected playwrights should be prepared to dedicate adequate time to this process prior to arriving on-site.
